I got the opportunity to race on the beach in Wild Wood New Jersey at the Race of Gentlemen. Here is a fun clip of my and my roadster.
Built by the Morris Brothers and flying the colors of the legendary So Cal Speed Shop, this ’31 Ford Roadster competed in drag races and dry lake events from the early ‘50s well into the mid ‘80s. Dick Morris, one of the Morris brothers who originally built the car, shared stories with the current owner about hooning around LA in the car and meeting up Alex Xydias for impromptu and illegal speed trials. It is, in short, a legendary hot rod with the period paperwork, photos and magazine features one expects of a museum quality car. We particularly like the car’s restoration, which returned it to its early 50s spec. This includes the Model A body over a ’32 chassis, Halibrand quick change rear end, ’39 Ford transmission with Lincoln gears, and most importantly, a ’49 Mercury flathead V8 spinning an Isky camshaft and breathing through 4 Stromberg 97s on and Edelbrock manifold. As an added bonus, the roadster also comes with most of the trophies won over its decades-long career.
