This is what happens when you give the engine too much Nitrous boost. Basically, Nitrous extremely cools the air that is supposed to enter the cylinder thus making it denser. More air with flammable nitrous particles and fuel definitely make bigger explosions thus giving much more power than usual. The colder the air the richer the mixture. However, engines cannot cope with extreme pressures and a lot more power than they are designed to withstand and when everything goes above the limits this happens. This poor Subaru had its engine explode.
